Linear versus royalty income.
Which type of income do you prefer? Linear or royalty income?
Linear income is earned when you trade time for money. It doesn't matter if you're a lawyer, bus driver, doctor or fast food employee employee. This type of income only pays for as long as you continue to work for it.
When the lawyer wins his big case and gets paid that line of income is finished. He needs to find new clients. When the bus driver ends his shift he is no longer earning. If he didn't come back to work ever he would never earn from that job again. When the doctor removes his scrubs and gets in his fancy car and drives home do you think he would earn if decided to quit the next day. Of course not. That would be the end of his income. When the fast food employee flips his last burger of the day and mixes his last shake he is done earning too. He has to clock back in another day or he will no longer draw a paycheck.
So what all those professions have in common is linear income and if they don't work they don't get paid.
Royalty income is passive recurring income or residual income.
There aren't many people who haven't heard of Michael Jordan. He is a great example of one recieving royalty income. He did the work right one time by winning six championships and snagging a Nike contract. He never has to shoot hoops again. He will earn everytime someone purchases a Nike Air Jordan product.
Elvis Presley also a household name did the work right one time by writing numerous hit albums. So even though Elvis is no longer with us, though many would disagree with that, his earnings still live on. When someone buys one of his albums or even downloads a single song of his on I Tunes his daughter Lisa Marie gets paid. She can spend her day at the beach, salon, spa, or where ever else she likes and the checks keep rolling in.
With royalty income you do the work right once and continue to get paid.
So which type of income do you prefer?
